We are DISTINCT, a communitybuilt on creative inspiration
Note From the Founder
I spent almost two decades after my collegiate years in a cubicle environment working for corporate tech companies. While I was grateful for my experience, something was amiss. Years ago, I had received a talent scholarship for music, but when it came time to choose a career path, due to my upbringing and heritage, I chose what I felt was a 'safer path' to success by majoring in business.
My spirit was at war.
It was on a flight back from a business trip when a close friend and colleague looked at me and said, "You look miserable. What's going on? What can I do to help?" I explained my turmoil and he asked me,
"What inpires you?"
Anthony Bourdain came to mind. I loved the fact that he seemed to surrounded himself with extremely creative and inspirational people. My friend then said to me, "Why can't you do that?"
So I decided to take action. I called my college roommate and he mentioned that his sister-in-law was an up and coming jewelry designer. I reached out to her and much to my surprise, she agreed to meet with me. I soon found myself on a flight to New York.
I met Bliss Lau in her temporary office at Parsons Design School. She showed me her jewelry. She talked about her inspirations — architecture, her heritage — and I was captivated! Her motive to create was evident, purposeful and came from an authentic place.

That night, we went out to dinner where she introduced me to her friend Susan Stanton, who is an extremely talented screenwriter and playwright. And so it began, I was introduced to jewelry designer Jules Kim, chef AJ Bull, product designer Chelsea Briganti, artists Micah Ganske an Colette Robbins. Every meeting was charged with inspiration. I had found my tribe. It was my "Midnight In Paris" moment. I had only one question:
All of these extraordinarily talented individuals seemed to be doing what they love for a living — why couldn't I?
I felt compelled to show others what I had discovered — a world where people were doing what they loved, what they were good at and making a living doing so. I felt charged with fulfilling two things: The first, to tell the stories of each creative I had met. The second: to inspire others worldwide in the same way I had been inspired. This culture of creativity welcomed me to be part of it. It made me want to create that experience for others who might be struggling in the same way I had.
DistinctDaily was created out of my personal quest. I was always looking for a catalyst and a cause. I've been so fortunate and am so grateful to the creative community that has welcomed me and allowed me the opportunity to share their stories. My hope is that you will become so inpired by our creative family, that you will fearlessly pursue your passions too. Join us!
May you find your purpose and discover your potential and in doing so, may you inspire others and transform our world.
